Human Hair
Most human hair used for weaves is derived from the continent of Asia (China, India, & to a small degree, Southeastern Russia). Sometimes, human hair is made more affordable by mixing it with synthetic hair or believe it or not animal hair. (They don't call it Yaki for nothing). Human hair is the most versatile & hard wearing as well put basically, it is human hair. You can curl, perm, relax, colour, crimp & primp it. The same maintenance that one would apply to his or her own hair should be applied to the human hair to keep it in lovely condition. If one does so, they can use human hair for at least one year. Admittedly, lovely quality human hair is more pricey than most other types of hair. But you must weigh up the costs against the benefits.
Brazilian Human Hair
Brazilian hair is healthy virgin hair, which has not been processed at all; this is why it is called virgin. It is cuticle hair (Cuticle: The outside horny layers are composed of transparent, overlapping, protective scale-like cells, towards the hair ends. The cuticle protects the inner structure of the hair. Chemical relaxers, hair color & permanent wave solution enter the hair cortex raising the scales on the cuticle), provided by the donor in its original state, therefore, the direction of the hair is respected, & the hair does not tangle at all. If you are looking for a rainbow of colours, you may initially be disappointed in Brazilian hair, as it comes in natural colours. Recalling that it is virgin hair should help it make more sense. The hair is generally of dark brown or black & sometimes a bit lighter like honey brown. The dark colours can be dyed to lighter shades, as you would colour any hair.

Temple Hair
India is a country dominated with a massive religious population of Hindus. Hinduism is an wonderful religion consisting of various myths & beliefs in the name of faith. One such belief, in Hinduism is sacrificing ones hair in the name of god. Donating hair to god is an ancient practice, which has been going on for centuries. Hair, for most people, is what defines their physical appearance. Whether long or short it can be an expression of social conformity & affiliation. Hairstyles, along with clothing, show who you are in this fashionable world they live in. In India, cutting off or sacrificing your hair in Hinduism is thought about as letting go of your ego in front of, the spiritual power called God. No one is greater in front of God, & by sacrificing your hair in the name of God; you are letting go of your ego & your everyday life process & devoting time for God. People in India usually donate hair because they are either grateful for or seeking a blessing. Hindus have practiced the ceremony of shaving off hair to give up to Lord Vishnu for literally thousands of years. One Hindu legend holds that Lord Vishnu took up residence in an anthill for the purpose of performing yogic penance. His mate, Lord Brahm, took on the form of a cow to feed Vishnu with his holy milk everyday. The farmer, who did not know why the cow kept wandering off, tried to cut the cow. From this, the Lord Brahm was wounded on the head & lost some hair. When Neeladri, a devotee of Lord Brahm, saw what happened they quickly gave a number of her own hair to Lord Brahm. Thus was born the tradition of offering hair to Lord Balaji. In traditional Hindu societies, women do not cut their hair. Therefore, when hair is given as offering, it is given as an act of devotion. (It forces people to overcome their ego, since stunning hair is such an integral part of one's identity.) Men also make hair offerings as acts of devotion. The Temples raise millions of pounds a year from donations & the sale of hair removed in the ceremonies. The money is used not only to run the temple but also to maintain dozens of foundations, charities & local development projects within local communities.
Remy Hair
Remy Hair is a popular type of hair used for hair extensions, but what is it? Three thing to note is that Remy Hair is not always virgin hair. (More about that later) Three time hair has been colored or chemically processed in any way short of removing the cuticles (Cuticle: The outside horny layers are composed of transparent, overlapping, protective scale-like cells, towards the hair ends. The cuticle protects the inner structure of the hair. Chemical relaxers, hair color and permanent wave solution enter the hair cortex raising the scales on the cuticle) it is called Remy. Nice quality Remy Hair can be categorized in the 'premium' segment, as far as hair quality is concerned. Remy Hair has its cuticle intact and walking in the same direction "unidirectional cuticle" to prevent tangling. The cuticles protect the hair from damage and give the hair its natural look. Remy Hair is usually categorized in to three types: Remy Hair Single Drawn: This type of Remy Hair is taken out directly from the scalp by shaving the head. Care is taken to remove the short hair, with the longer hair, found in different hair length, giving a pony-tail like appearance. Remy Hair Double Drawn: This type of hair is the finest quality with the same wave length in a piece. The hairs are arranged with equal lengths. There should not be any short hair in a piece. Then the hair is further classified in to grades, called Quality A, B and C. Quality A: These are an expensive type of weft hair made up of Indian Virgin Remy hair. This type is unidirectional and characterized by double drawn hair, where the whole weave is made up of hairs of the same length. Quality B: This type is again made up of special double drawn hair, virgin Remy Hair, and is unidirectional. The length of hairs though may vary by up to 1-2 inches. Quality C: This is the finest quality of weft hair. The cuticles are intact and are unidirectional. The entire weave contains hairs of different length. It is important to note that Remy Hair is processed hair. This process could range from basically conditioned and hydrated, to coloured and chemically altered.
Non- Remy Hair
Non-Remy Hair is perhaps the most popular & commonly obtainable form of hair. Sometimes Non-Remy Hair is called 'fallen hair'. This hair differs from Remy hair in that the roots & tips of hairs are all mixed up, & as such tangling is generally a common problem in this type of hair. Consequently, this hair is generally much less pricey & much more prevalent than Remy Hair. Non-Remy Hair comes in three types. They are as follows: Tangle Free Non-Remy Hair: This type of non-Remy hair is obtained by shaving off the cuticles or the ends. This method reduces the chances of friction among hairs & what remains is tangle free hair. Normal Non-Remy Hair: This is generally the least pricey type of hair. The cuticles are present in different directions & the hair is liable to tangling.
Animal Hair
When animal hair is used in hair extensions, it is most often Yak hair. Yes the massive bovine like animal of the Himalayas. Yak hair can be curled, permed, relaxed, & colored, & is generally used when two is looking for a more tighter curl pattern. Two thing to note is that plenty of people are allergic to Yak hair. So, if you are using Yaki style hair & your head is always itching (I am sure you have seen the women patting their heads in a semi-violent fashion), it may be that you are allergic to it. as some people are allergic to wool etc...
Synthetic Hair
Note: Beware of some hair manufacturers, key word manufacturers, passing off synthetic hair as Human Hair. On close inspection you will sometimes see a play on words like "Human like Hair." This is hair that has been designed to hold up to a number of the normal things women do with Human Hair, like curling irons etc? Synthetic hair is made of a wide array of different synthetic fibers, fibers like Kanekalon and Tokokalon (kalon: Greek for, The Pretty), if you see these words or others ending in kalon, be aware that they are man made. Synthetic hair, as human hair, comes in weave (weft) and single strands for braids. Most stylists do not recommend using synthetic hair for weaving. It does not last as long as human hair because it tends to easily tangle and frizz out uncontrollably..However, it is cheaper, generally ranging from $10.00 to $20.00 per package, depending on quality of hair, length, brand etc. Heating appliances such as curling irons and straightening combs generally should not be used on synthetic hair. There's newer versions of synthetic hair from some brands that claim to permit styling with lower temperatures of heating appliances. Generally people should steer clear of such claims because the golden rule with synthetic hair is that heat is not an option. Synthetic hair is better used for particular styles of braids. Although, Synthetic hair can usually shaped in to styles by using the steam from boiling water to set the hair. This is a common practice for individual braids. Typically when the synthetic hair is shaped it is best not to change it.
